what the archive is about

The Living Archive explores the potential of (post)industrial heritage to transform production in our cities. We collect stories with participatory heritage methods. The nodes for the local collection efforts are Fab City Hubs (FCH). The collection has been carefully assembled by FCH teams who have been learning about, co-creating and applying participatory heritage-making approaches, emotion networking methodology, oral history principles and creative perspective-taking.

Passion for zero waste

Likenwood is a team and a family dedicated to design and manufacture wooden objects. Started as a project of Anna and Miguel, a couple of interior designer and architect who are passionate about wood since very early in their lives, Likenwood seeks a connection with nature through furniture, using all the senses to appreciate and live it.

They started the project in 2017. Their workspace is based in a 140 year old premises that used to be a metallurgical industrial cooperative and then an ironworks and paint factory in Poblenou.

Likenwood works with 5 types of raw wood, all of national origin and coming from responsibly managed forests. Following a zero waste approach in their production, the surplus wood that cannot be used for large pieces is sorted and reinserted into the production process to create smaller objects or accessories. The smaller surplus (smaller or unusable pieces) is turned into firewood, which is mainly used in restaurants such as pizzerias or brasseries.

Why is this story relevant?

This story was collected in the context of the Make Works Catalonia platform project in the workspace of Likenwood. It contributes to value the local production of the neighborhood of Poblenou and discover the hidden faces in local workshops.

Likenwood is aiming to be zero waste and only work with national wood from responsibly managed forests.
